BYU Alumni Association hosts 5K fundraiser

By Linda Sappington

The St. George Chapter of the BYU Alumni Association will host a 5K run/walk. This popular event will be held May 11 with runners and supporters gathering at Confluence Park. Registration for the ninth annual BYU fundraiser starts at 7 a.m. with the race kicking off at 7:45 a.m.

Following the race around a specified course, there will be prize drawings for numerous gifts and prizes provided from generous local merchants and businesses, such as Jones Paint and Glass, Chick-fil-a, and Tuacahn Center for the Performing Arts.

“All proceeds from this fun family event will be used to fund scholarships for deserving Washington County students attending Brigham Young University, so participants are encouraged to bring neighbors, family members and friends in support of this cause.”

The St. George Chapter of the BYU Alumni Association raises money each year by organizing events such as the 5K run/walk. Since its reorganization in 2009, the association has awarded $117,000 to 77 students selected from among more than students submitting essays explaining their need for support in the upcoming school year.

Participants of any age may register online at h2019funrunwalk.eventbrite.com at a cost of $15 per individual runner or $50 for a family of four. Additional immediate family members may participate at a charge of $10 each. Participants may register on site on the day of the event, but only those who register online before May 5 will receive an event t-shirt.

For more information on the fun run or on how to become involved in the St. George Chapter of the BYU Alumni Association, call (435) 272-7564.
