DOCUTAH and Sundance host screening of “Won’t You Be My Neighbor?”

Free screening of 2018’s best film to be followed by producer Q&A

DOCUTAH returns to beautiful St. George with another collection of entertaining and informative documentaries from around the world in just a couple of weeks. But on Friday, Aug. 24, this venerable documentary film fest is joining forces with the legendary Sundance Film Festival to bring southern Utah a free screening of 2018’s very best film, “Won’t You Be My Neighbor?” DOCUTAH and Sundance will host this free screening of “Won’t You Be My Neighbor?” at the Eccles Theater on the DSU campus at 6 p.m.

I’ve been very vocal about my undeniable love for this film since seeing it earlier this year at Sundance. It’s a movie that everyone should see, particularly in today’s harsh, argumentative climate. You can read my glowing review here. What’s more, this special free screening will include a Q&A with producer Nicholas Ma. All the more reason to attend! A word to the wise, though — bring a box of Kleenex with you, because you’re going to need them.

“Won’t You Be My Neighbor?” was directed by Morgan Neville and rated PG-13. Fred Rogers used puppets and play to explore complex social issues such as race, disability, equality, and tragedy, helping form the American concept of childhood. He spoke directly to children, and they responded enthusiastically. Yet today, his impact is unclear. Have we lived up to Fred’s ideal of good neighbors?
