It may come as a surprise that women are still a minority in politics. In Utah, women comprise only 17 percent of the state senate and 16 percent of the Utah House of Representatives, ranking Utah 45th in the nation when it comes to women in elected office.
The Dixie State University Women’s Resource Program will host a “Women in Politics” panel discussion and forum on Wednesday, March 19 from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. in the Boeing Auditorium (Room 121) of the DSU Udvar-Hazy Business Building. Admission is free and open to all DSU students, faculty and staff, and the community.
The forum will feature three female Washington County political figures, including Dorothy Engelman, representing the Democratic Party; Shauna Jo Larkin, representing the Republican Party; and Marianne Sorensen, providing an independent viewpoint. The panel will speak on their experiences in politics and will provide thoughts on improving the presence and authority of women in American politics.
