Kanab Music Festival- Staying Safe and Rockin’ Out!

On July 24th & 25th, Kanab will host the first two-day Kanab Music Fest, featuring ten different Utah-based artists at the Jacob Hamblin Park from 5 PM – 10 PM each night. This first year, the concert is free of charge.

This two-day music fest will follow the “new normal” guidelines facilitating social distancing, high hygiene standards, and mask-wearing when social distancing is difficult. “We will have two stages and three large-screens to allow the attendees to spread out and sit with their family groups in the park and enjoy live music,” said Ted Hinckley, Kanab Music Festival originator.

Hinckley is the Director of Spring City Folk and Bluegrass Festival and has worked on major events, including the Sundance Film Festival & Stadium of Fire. He has also participated in more than 20 large-screen or IMAX movies, including “Zion’s Canyon – Treasure of the Gods.” Hinckley owns the record label EMH Classical Music which has recordings that stream worldwide daily. He also has nearly 100 movie credits. “We are thrilled to work with him and bring a great new event to Kane County,” said Kane County Tourism Director, Camille Johnson Taylor.

Hinckley came to Kanab with several student bands in February for the Balloons & Tunes Roundup and realized that Kanab would be an excellent location for a music festival, with protocol and infrastructure already in place to allow for a great outdoor concert under the new guidelines. “There is a pent up need for artists to perform after all of the restrictions and a great desire for live music for concert goers. We want to do that and provide a great environment and facilitate spreading out,” Hinckley said.

Friday will feature country, folk, and bluegrass artists, and Saturday will feature more rock bands. “We have a great line up. There will be something for everyone to enjoy,” said Lannell Dove, Event Coordinator for Kane County Office of Tourism.

Kanab City Arts Council is also a co-sponsor of the event. Due to COVID-19, several of their plans were canceled, and this seemed like the perfect opportunity to bring great music and get residents and visitors out enjoying the arts again under the new standards. “The Arts Council is excited to support the event and provide a safe environment to enjoy live music,” said Dave Owens, Kanab Arts Council member.

The event will be held in the beautiful Jacob Hamblin Park (566 North 100 East), nestled in the iconic red rocks of Kanab. Food trucks and craft vendors are welcome. There is no fee; however, space is limited.
