Lincoln Center Violinist To Perform In Kayenta

The Center For the Arts at Kayenta – February 18-19, 2022

Center For the Arts at Kayenta is proud to present a team of renowned musicians for a night of exquisite Chamber Music. The performers include celebrated violinist Kurt Nikkanen, cellist Daniel Gaisford, violist Jason Bonham, cellist Jessika Soli, and violinist Urs Rutishauser.

What is Chamber Music? This genre is a form of classical music composed of a small group of instruments—traditionally a group that could fit in a palace chamber or a large room. Because of its intimate nature, chamber music has been described as “the music of friends.” Today, these performances have migrated from the home to the concert hall but still retain their personal appeal. Playing this music requires both musical and social skills and thus differs from a solo or orchestral experience. The intimate Lorraine Boccardo Theater at Kayenta is the ideal venue to experience this style of music.

The program will begin with Nikkanen and Gaisford in the famous Duo for Violin and Cello by Zoltån Kodaly. Written in 1914, it features melodic folk melodies from the composer’s native Hungary. The Duo is a technically demanding work that challenges the performers and creates a spectacular, polyphonic soundscape. The artists will close the first half with a delightful short number to thrill the audience.

After intermission, cellist Jessika Soli, violist Jason Bonham, and violinist Urs Rutishauser will join the group to perform a jewel of the chamber music repertoire; the Cello Quintet in C major by Franz Schubert.  The quintet’s unique beauty and symphonic character are created using two cellos to develop a deeper, darker sound.

A group of musicians of this caliber has rarely appeared in Southern Utah. Don’t miss out on this experience – get your tickets now as seating is limited!

Two performances will be offered: February 18-19, 2022, at 7:30 PM. Tickets for adults are $35, and children and students are $10.
