P.A.W.S Adoption Center sells shirts for July 4 fundraiser
By LuLu Hart
P.A.W.S Adoption Center is selling Independence Day-themed shirts for a chance to win $200 worth of prizes.
The shirts, which will feature an American flag design, are a fundraising effort for the shelter’s rescued animals. Those who purchase the shirts and wear them to the annual St. George Fourth of July Parade will receive raffle tickets for a chance to win a gift basket worth $200. Those wearing the shirts may also receive small prizes at random, such as dog bones and cat treats.
Many of the animals that come through P.A.W.S suffer from various health issues. On average, the shelter spends $8,000 to $9,000 a month on medical bills for the dogs and cats that come through their door. The shirts were designed to help pay for those bills.
There will be six different styles of the shirt, ranging from tank top to crew neck. Each shirt is priced under $30 and can be found at the P.A.W.S campaign website. Fifty percent of the proceeds will go directly to helping cover the cost of feeding, medicating, and provide shelter for over 8,000 animals rescued to date. The shirts are on sale through June 11. They will be delivered by June 29, just in time for the parade.
P.A.W.S will have a booth located on the corner of 100 E and Tabernacle Street during the St. George Fourth of July parade where representatives will hand out raffle tickets, small prizes, water, and Otter Pops.
“Working with these animals and making sure they get the medical care they need is what gets me through the day,” said P.A.W.S volunteer McKenzi Blomquist. “We couldn’t do the things we do without the loving support of fellow animal lovers.”
Purchasing a shirt is not the only way to get involved with P.A.W.S. The shelter is always looking for new volunteers and fosters, and donations can be given at dixiepaws.org.
P.A.W.S is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit no-kill volunteer animal rescue organization founded in 2003. Approaching its 15-year anniversary, P.A.W.S is the largest dog and cat rescue group in southern Utah. The shelter has rescued animals from all over southern Utah including Iron County and even into Nevada.
