Southern Utah pianists invited to perform in SUU’s 2019 Piano Monster Concert

Southern Utah University’s music department is searching for pianists of all levels of experience and all age groups to be a part of the 2019 Piano Monster Concert, which will take place Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. in the Heritage Center Theater in Cedar City.

“The Piano Monster Concert is important because it’s a great opportunity for pianists of all ages to get experience performing onstage,” said Anthony Malachowski, a piano student at SUU.

There will be multiple Steinway and Boston grand pianos on the stage. Two or three pianists at each piano will perform piano ensemble music in groups divided according to their age and ability. Rehearsals will be held during the weeks leading up to the concert. Attendance at these rehearsals is encouraged but not required.

“It gives children a low pressure opportunity to perform and share their talents with their peers and their teachers and their families,” said SUU student Maia Wimmer.

Registration for this event is $5 per person. There will be a charge of $5 to $15 to purchase music. Dress rehearsal will be Dec. 2. Those interested in performing must register by Oct. 18. Late registrations will be accepted if space is available in any of the groups. Registered participants can play in as many groups as they are interested in with no extra fee. Teachers are welcome to play with any group.

Each performer at the concert will be given two complimentary tickets to the final concert. Tickets will be $6 for adults and $3 for youth. Admission is free for SUU faculty and staff (and one guest) and students with a current ID.
