A St. George plane crash occurred at 9 a.m. this morning when a single engine Ultralight experimental aircraft crashed shortly after takeoff at SGU Regional Airport.

St. George plane crash was fatal

A St. George plane crash occurred at 9 a.m. this morning when a single engine Ultralight experimental aircraft crashed shortly after takeoff at SGU Regional Airport. The male pilot, identified as 69-year-old Sterling Palmer of St. George, was the only person on board. He was killed on impact. St. George Fire, St. George Police, and SGU Regional Airport Operations personnel responded to the scene shortly after the crash, and the airport runway was closed due to the proximity of the crash.

The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration were immediately notified and will be conducting the investigation as to the cause of the crash with assistance from St. George Police Investigations.

At 12:30 p.m., the runway was cleared and reopened for regular airport activity.
