With the Tour of Utah Prologue Stage set for Aug. 6 at 10 a.m. near the Red Hills Desert Garden, St. George has issued a traffic advisory. There are several road closures planned:

—A partial road closure of Red Hills Parkway, between Skyline and 900 E, will begin at noon Aug. 5 to prepare for the Tour of Utah. This section of roadway will be open for local traffic only.

—A full closure of Red Hills Parkway, between Bluff St. and 900 E, will begin at 5 a.m. Aug. 6.

—A 1.62-mile section of Red Hills Parkway will be used for the race, from Pioneer Park to the turnaround one-half mile beyond Pioneer Hills Trailhead. This section of the parkway will be closed to all traffic at 5 a.m. Aug. 6. The road will reopen to traffic after 4 p.m.

A world-class field of 121 professional cyclists representing 20 countries is listed on the preliminary rosters for the 17 men’s teams set to compete in the 14th annual Tour of Utah. They’ll begin in the Prologue Stage, where competitors race in one-minute intervals against the clock on a 3.3-mile, out-and-back course on Red Hills Parkway.

Several events accompany the Stage 1 Prologue, including the Healthy Living Expo outside the Red Hills Desert Garden and a race for children ages 4–12 set for 9:15 a.m.

Spectators will find team parking along the south side of Red Hills Parkway near the city overlook area. Free spectator shuttles and parking are available at the DSU Testing Center, located on 954 E. Tabernacle St. Spectators who want to cycle to the event are invited to park at the Elks Lodge on 630 W 1250 N, and ride from there to the expo via the paved trail system along Red Hills Parkway. An awards ceremony will be held at the finish line on Red Hills Parkway following the competition, expected to begin between 12:15 p.m. and 1 p.m.
