SUU music department presents chamber music concerts

By Ashley Pollock

SUU’s music department is preparing for chamber ensemble concerts this semester, beginning with the Piano and String Ensembles April 8 followed by the Brass and Woodwind Ensembles April 15. All performances will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the Thorley Recital Hall of the music building on SUU’s campus in Cedar City. These concerts are free and open to the public.

The students participating in these ensembles work to perfect their instrumental abilities each semester. As they practice, they learn and grow as artists and professionals. The final payoff of their hard work are these end-of-semester concerts. Not all students who participate in the ensemble classes major in music.

“I love getting to know the people I play with,” said Chase Redmall, a freshman cello major. “Smaller ensemble settings help us to communicate more intimately and therefore create more expressive and meaningful music.”

“The Piano and String Ensembles Concert features fun, exciting pieces and more serious works,” said Mark Rau, a sophomore piano major. “I find the concert to be a good way for pianists and string players to collaborate and to showcase the work they have done all semester.”
