If you are the parent of a creative child, check out Southern Utah University’s College of Performing and Visual Arts free arts classes for youth ages 3-11, the “Arts Lab.” Workshops will be offered in theater and creative movement on Saturday, Oct. 24. Preschool and elementary age children are invited to participate in the various classes and interactive workshops.
This session of the SUU Arts Lab includes a special dance workshop for children ages three and four from 11-11:45 a.m. Classes for ages five through eight are held from noon to 1:45 p.m., while classes for ages nine through eleven are held from 2-3:45 p.m. All classes are held at Gateway Preparatory Academy in Enoch. The sessions are free and open to youngsters in the community; however registration is required.
The Arts Lab workshops were created under the supervision of SUU faculty members Denise Purvis, assistant professor of theater arts and dance, and Michael Bahr, Utah Shakespeare Festival education director. However, please be advised that due to the overwhelming popularity of the program, parents are encouraged to go directly to suu.edu/pva/ta for complete class information, details, and registration. All classes are free, but space is limited. Please contact Denise Purvis with any questions at (435) 865-8024.
Since its inaugural season in 2012, the SUU Arts Lab has engaged more than 1,500 children who enjoyed the creative engagement through the arts.
“These specialized workshops provide participants with a lively and non-competitive experience with creative art, while helping our future educators develop skills and see new possibilities in arts education,” Purvis said. “Each Arts*Lab gives teachers and students a memorable experience while having lots of fun.”
