The Historic Buckskin Tavern in Fredonia Reopens

Known for hosting the longest bar in Arizona, the famous Buckskin Tavern reopened last month on April 22nd.

It was a humble beginning. Built in 1934 by Milt Cram, the Buckskin Tavern served local ranch hands and cowboys, and an adventure was in the making when Little Hollywood started making movies in the area. Sitting on the Utah/Arizona border, it also made for easy access to the spirits for folks in Utah, where prohibition-style laws were still in place at the time.

Over the years, it became a favorite watering hole for locals and visitors spending time in town. From here, the Tavern grew slowly but surely, adding a dance hall, a stage for musicians, and additional areas for seating.

With the onset of COVID and the shutdowns, getting things back up and running has taken a bit of tenacity and sheer willpower. Now, the new owners, Lianne, and Chris Kelly, are on track to bring Buckskin completely back to life!

“I’ve always wanted to have a tap house; it’s a dream come true.” Said Lianne, commenting on their vision. “I asked what the community needed, and a gathering place is what people seemed to want the most. You don’t have to drink to come here. We want people to come here and feel comfortable and have fun. Somewhere to go.”

As with time and changes, the Buckskin has some changes and additions they believe will bring an even greater slice of the community together.

As they gear up for full service with additions such as their coffee bar, full kitchen, and packaged liquor, you can now enjoy food, spirits, and open mic’s during operating hours, with tasty eats being provided by local food truck vendors until the kitchen upgrades are complete.

Their current hours of operation are:

  • Thursday 3-9 PM
  • Friday 3-11 PM
  • Saturday Noon to 11 PM
  • Sunday Noon to 9 PM
  • Monday 3-9 PM
  • Closed on Tuesday & Wednesday

One of their goals is to have live music every Saturday evening, with local singers and guitar players, while enjoying some good ol’ tavern food to make sure you’re not starving when you’re dancing and shooting pool.

The Buckskin Tavern is located at 2321 N Main in Fredonia, Arizona. You can visit www.thebuckskintavern.com or call 928-643-7094 for more information and updates.
