Utah Tech Theatre Presents “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”

February 9 to March 30 at 7:30 PM

Utah Tech Theatre Program is thrilled to unveil its upcoming production of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” a magical rendition of Shakespeare’s iconic masterpiece, bringing this timeless classic to life in a mesmerizing theatrical experience. The enchanting tale of love, mischief, and fantastical adventures will unfold in the Eccles Blackbox on the Utah Tech University Campus.

Directed by UT Assistant Professor of Theatre Brandon Bruce, this production promises a fresh and innovative perspective while staying true to the essence of Shakespearean comedy. Bruce emphasizes the theme of metamorphosis, stating, “Every character transforms in some way, much like a caterpillar transcends its form. We are thrilled to present ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ with a unique interpretation that resonates with modern audiences.”

Audiences can expect a visually stunning production. Bruce remarks that he has two goals for the audience, “First: “I had a great time.’ Second, ‘that good is not all good, and bad is not all bad.” Bruce hopes to physically engage the audience through laughter while painting the wild, mysterious, magical world of the fairies, the heart-wrenching and heartache-ridden world of the lovers, and even the surprisingly poignant discoveries made by Bottom and the clownish mechanicals. He adds, “I think this play is best performed when the comedy is infused with depth and thoughtfulness.’”

The university’s commitment to excellence is evident in every aspect of the production, from casting to technical execution. The creative team includes UT Theatre Students and professors, with Joss Carlisle as Assistant Director, Allison Gibbes as Stage Manager, Samantha Pope & Sophie Price as Assistant Stage Managers, Allison Gibbes as Dramaturg, Sara Gallo as Choreographer, and Lonnie Parsons as Musical Composer.

Technical design is in expert hands, featuring Scenic and Puppet Design by Chelsea Richards, Costume Design by Kris Davies, and Technical Direction, Lighting, and Sound Design by Henry Echeverria.

Admission to the performances is free, and no advance ticket reservations are required. The Utah Tech Theatre Program invites everyone to join and appreciate the work of its students, contributing actively to their growth and development.

The Eccles Blackbox Theatre is located in the Eccles Fine Arts Center at 225 S 700 E, St. George, on the Utah Tech University campus. Visit theatre.utahtech.edu for additional information.
