Walk For Freedom in St. George

In a press release issued yesterday by Larry Meyers

All Utahns are invited to join us for a healthy Walk For Freedom on Wednesday, April 15, 2020, from 5-6 pm, to exercise our rights as American citizens. Participants are encouraged to bring signs to express support for protecting our freedoms and getting Utahns back to work.

In compliance with the Utah Stay Home, Stay Safe directive and for the safety and comfort of all involved, the Walk For Freedom will obey public safety laws and follow the guidelines of avoiding gatherings of people, maintaining six feet distancing between individuals, and encouraging participants to wear masks and/or gloves if they feel it is necessary. Rather than gathering in groups, the event will consist of individuals and/or families taking a healthy walk around the city block to express their support for freedom.

The purposes of the Walk For Freedom are to:

1) assert our God-given, Constitutionally-protected rights, including freedom of speech, freedom of assembly, religious freedom, the right to contract, and the right to use our property as we see fit so long as we do not harm others,

2) demand that Utah’s state and local legal restrictions on these rights be lifted so that, with appropriate precautions taken, Utahns can get back to work immediately, and

3) encourage all Utahns to continue to exercise wisdom and safe health practices, including proper sanitation, staying in when sick or at risk, and social distancing and wearing masks so long as needed to prevent the further spread of illnesses.

The Washington County Walk For Freedom will be held at the Washington County Administration Building, beginning at the corner of Tabernacle Street and 200 East in St. George. Participants are invited to drop off a copy of their petitions (copy available below) or letters to elected officials and take a healthy walk around the block. Drivers are invited to drive by and give the walkers a healthy shout of encouragement. Parking is curbside and in the nearby County Building parking lot or the public parking structure at Tabernacle and Main Street.

Those who cannot participate due to illness or other risk factors should stay home and can participate by sending a petition or letter directly to Governor Herbert or other officials and by posting on social media.

Utahns across the State are invited to join us in the Walk For Freedom on April 15th at 5 pm in your local communities at appropriate locations.

  1. Please read again your item #1, last few words “…so long as we do not harm others.” Yes, I realize we need to get to work but you are potentially harming others. You are not a health scientist nor are you on any panel making the recommendations. With current serology it is possible to trace the virus back to you and anyone else participating in the walk. As such, souls virus be traced back to anyone who participates and should there be a death as a result you are guilty of negligent homicide. Think on that.

  2. So… their plan is to demonstrate that we can all be responsible adults and get back to work by… not following social distancing recommendations and not wearing masks?

    Genius. Pure genius.

  3. The individuals taking part in this are all so impatient and inconsiderate. This is against the advice of every expert in any field related to all of this. The only “experts” (not) who want things re-opened right now are greedy business owners care more about their bottom line than people’s lives. Our collective health and future is at stake here. We have the blessed option to make things better, and we can if we are patient and respect the advice of medical professionals. We are facing a moment unlike any other in history and we have the option to make things better and more stable in so many ways. Please stop giving in to your fear and allow the necessary time it takes to make things better.

  4. I am an essential worker and I was amazed to see 200+ people marching side by side, not to mention not wearing masks or gloves, down the street on my way home yesterday. How disgraceful and childish to believe your “right to freedom” comes before others lives and safety. I am so embarrassed and disappointed to be in a community that acts like this.

  5. these protest walks are the actions of stupid, selfish, inconsiderate people who are likely to have been influenced by your moron of a president
