The 4th annual Zion Chalk & Earth Fest returns to Springdale, Utah this April with an exciting new location and a vibrant lineup of artists and Earth Day programming. Previously held in the parking lot of Cable Mountain Lodge, this year’s festival will take place just behind the Canyon Community Center, located at 126 Lion Blvd in Springdale.
“What I love about street painting is how it brings communities together. Artists aren’t creating in isolation, but as part of something larger and more far-reaching. Street painting is a kind of performance—like a dance—it has to be witnessed to be fully experienced.” — Aimee Bonham
Rooted in Springdale’s long-standing tradition of celebrating Earth Day, the festival continues to grow as a dynamic, community-centered event. In 2023, the Town of Springdale invited artist Aimee Bonham, founder of the Kayenta Street Painting Festival, to help expand the chalk art portion of the festival.
Although now based in Southern California, Bonham has deep ties to Southern Utah and was eager to return in this role. She invites and curates the artists who participate in the event, working alongside a dedicated committee that supports all aspects of the festival.
As part of the festival’s community outreach efforts, Bonham also conducted two workshops with students at Springdale Elementary School and Vista School in Ivins, helping introduce younger artists to the process of street painting.
The festival is a collaborative effort between the Town of Springdale, Z-Arts, Cable Mountain Lodge, and Zion Canyon Village.

Celebrating Earth Through Art, Film, and Music
Zion Chalk & Earth Fest is designed to inspire appreciation for the natural world through art, education, and community connection. Visitors can explore interactive booths, enjoy local food, and watch as artists transform pavement into colorful, immersive works of art.
Live entertainment will take place daily from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM, adding music and energy to the festival atmosphere.
On Saturday, the festival will also feature approximately 25 student artists from Hurricane High School and Vista School (Ivins), who will be creating their own chalk works for the public to enjoy—highlighting the next generation of artists and strengthening community connections.
For the second consecutive year, the festival will also feature the Wild & Scenic Film Festival, with screenings held at the Bumbleberry Inn. The film festival highlights environmental stories from around the world and complements the weekend’s theme of “Wild & Scenic.”
This theme will also be reflected in the chalk artwork, as artists create pieces inspired by nature, conservation, and the beauty of wild places.
About the Festival
Zion Chalk & Earth Fest continues to evolve as a unique blend of street painting, environmental awareness, and community celebration. By bringing artists and audiences together in the heart of Springdale, the festival invites visitors to slow down, engage with art, and reflect on the landscapes that surround us.
