Zion National Park has begun removal and replacement of a waterline near the south entrance of the park. Most of the construction will be off-road, but beginning Tuesday, Oct. 20 and continuing until Friday, Oct. 23, State Route 9 will be reduced to one lane near the south entrance. Minor delays are expected. The road will be widened back to its standard width just before the entrance stations.
The waterline is located on the west side of UT 9 and runs north from the south entrance station to the Emergency Operations Center. Most of the construction will occur during the weekdays and is expected to be wrapped up by mid-December. The repairs are being funded by a National Recreation Fee Demonstration program. Funds allocated for the program are collected from park entrance fees and are used to pay for maintenance and public service projects.
