After the rousing success of “West Side Story,” the St. George Musical Theater season continues with the classic comedy, “Arsenic and Old Lace,” the farcical black comedy about the seemingly innocent Brewster twins, spinsters who take to killing lonely old men with their homemade elderberry wine. The hilarity continues with their nephew Mortimer, a drama critic who is going crazy over his upcoming nuptials and who must also deal with nutty brothers—one who thinks he is Teddy Roosevelt and the other a recipient of some strange plastic surgery.
“There is a reason this comedy is a perennial favorite,” said executive director Bruce Bennett. “Its band of kooky characters never goes out of style.”
The play is directed by director and actor Varlo Davenport who has his talented wife Andrea by his side creating some wonderful costumes.
“With all that’s going on in the world right now, we need to take some time for good-natured laughter, and ‘Arsenic and Old Lace’ is a perfect elixir for those who need some comedy in their life,” said managing director Dan Olsen.
