The Bureau of Land Management is seeking public input on a proposed High Desert Trail project that would establish approximately 800 miles of designated off-highway vehicle routes across BLM-managed lands.
According to the agency, the proposed trail system would include staging areas, signage, wayfinding, and administration of special recreation permits for events and guided trail use. The project is intended to create a designated long-distance route that improves recreation opportunities while supporting rural communities through recreation-based tourism.
As part of the review process, the BLM has prepared a Draft Environmental Assessment (EA) and will host two virtual public meetings to provide additional information about the proposal and the National Environmental Policy Act process.

Virtual public meeting schedule
Monday, June 8
2 PM to 3 PM Mountain Time
Tuesday, June 9

The Draft Environmental Assessment will be available for public comment from June 2–16, 2026.
