Dixie State Mascot Cartoon by Dan Ogden

Dixie is a dangerous place for mascots. With the average lifespan of a Dixie State mascot shorter than the tenure of an average NBA coach, Brooks the Bison might want to sleep with one eye open. I hesitated with the term “tenure” there because I didn’t want to use a word DSU’s president doesn’t understand. As Dixie State’s identity crisis continues, I wonder how many mascots the administration will burn through before they realize that being a real university takes more than a shiny new logo. It takes a commitment to things like faculty, students, and free speech.
